Harry Wall

In this episode SuperCabby interviews harry Wall.

Some of you may know Harry but a lot of you may not, Harry is one of those drivers who has become frustrated with the situation that Taxi drivers now find themselves in.

Harry has become very vocal on Facebook and various other social media and has recently been nominated for Paul Tavares’s trade committee that he is trying to put together.

I have known Harry for a number of years and he has always held strong opinions on issues that our trade encounters but over the past few years Harry has taken to writing down his feelings and opinions via Facebook posts in various groups.

London Taxi Radio Interviews Episode 53

In this episode SuperCabby interviews Ajit Chambers.

19830_ajit-chambersAjit Chambers has been quite vocal on social media with claims of corruption at TFL, these accusations are made due to his own dealings with TFL and his Old London Underground Company .

Ajit explains during the interview that he made up a business plan to use London’s disused Underground Stations as a tourist attraction, Ajit found the procurement process to be extremely unethical bordering on corruption.

Ajit has since learned that the same people involved with the problems that he encountered are exactly the same as those responsible for encouraging Uber to come to London and allegedly facilitating their progress in London.

Ajit has thousands of emails as proof to back up his allegations against TFL and during the interview Ajit makes quite a few interesting comparisons.

Ajit calls for the removal of the Transport Commissioner, Mike Brown and also calls upon others to make a statement.

We hope to return to Ajit in the near future to get an update on progress.

London Taxi Radio Interviews Episode 41

Cabbies-250x250In this episode Jamie AKA SuperCabby interviews Artemis & Cher from SaveTaxi who have set up Action for Cabbies to raise funds for the Judicial Review into Transport for London’s licensing or Uber.

Action for Cabbies needs to raise £600.000 for this initiative to move forward to the next stage.

There are 25,000 taxi drivers in London and if every taxi driver pledged to the fund it would only cost each of us £24.00.

There are also hundreds of businesses who earn their living off the back of Taxi drivers who should pledge their support to the fund as without London’s Taxi drivers they basically have no business left.

We have also added a plea from Sean Paul Day onto the end of the interview urging all Taxi drivers to support Action for Cabbies. Sean;s message was not recorded for this episode, but we thought it was so passionate that we thought it should be included.

To pledge your support for the Judicial Review please go to http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/action-for-cabbies.

London Taxi PR – LTR Interviews Episode 38

London Taxi Radio Interviews Episode 38

London Taxi PR

LeGOa51qIn this episode SuperCabby interviews Gary & Lee who have formed London Taxi PR

During my 25 years of driving a Taxi in London there has virtually been no PR to speak of promoting the London Taxi.

Gary & Lee are hoping to change that by forming London Taxi PR and raising funds from within the trade to engage PR companies to promote the London Taxi through continual PR and promotional campaigns.

Gary & Lee are collecting money from both drivers and businesses within the trade, receipts are given for any money donated to the cause and they are completely open and honest and invite anyone to scrutinise their books should they so wish.

We have come to a time where PR is king and business is won through engaged PR campaigns, we can no longer expect to rest on our laurels and the fact that we have completed the famous “knowledge of London” to carry us through these difficult times.

We are seeing a downturn in work due to large corporates spending vast amounts of money on PR campaigns to convince the travelling public to use their services rather than ours, giving the public the perception that travelling by London Taxi is expensive and using their service is cheap and efficient which as we well know is not the case.

The London Taxi trade and its drivers are the best in the World, we know we are the best but we need to let the travelling public know we are the best and we need to dispel the rumours that we are expensive, we can achieve this through 2 methods.

1 The driver has to play his part and not broom jobs and accept credit cards, be smart, efficient, polite and present a clean vehicle.

2 Through an engaged PR campaign aimed at those that need to travel around London using personal transport and good PR campaigns cost money.

Hailo Interview – London Taxi Radio Interviews Episode 37

The Hailo Interview
London Taxi Radio Interviews Episode 37

imgresIn this episode I went along with Grant Davis Chairman of the London Cab Drivers Club to interview the new CEO of Hailo Andrew Pennington.

Hailo have recently announced that they are to return to Black Cabs only and have surrendered their Private Hire Operators license and removed the Private Hire (minicab) option from their app.

Hailo applied for a private hire operators license back in 2014 and caused an upset among London’s Taxi drivers as they initially stated that they were Black Cab only and were winning the work back from Private Hire.

35% of active drivers deleted the app and refused to work on the same app as private hire drivers, there were also ugly scenes outside the Hailo office in Great Suffolk Street were angry drivers confronted those involved with Hailo.

Arguments also broke out between friends were one had deleted the app and the other remained working on the app which caused bad feeling within the trade.

This latest announcement by Hailo is obviously a positive move but it will also take a long time for trust to come back into the relationship between drivers and Hailo.

Andrew comes across as being very open, sincere and frank and answered any question that we put to him.

This interview is also available in the LCDC newspaper the Badge.

Russell – Arresting Uber Final Interview – London Taxi Radio Interviews 34

Russell Howarth – Arresting Uber Final Interview

This is basically the final interview of this type we will be doing with Russell as this is make or break time as to whether Russell comes to the UK to help the London Taxi Trade int heir fight with Uber.

Russell explains that he does not have sufficient funds to pay for his trip to London or to live while he is here, and neither should the London Taxi Trade expect him to do so.

Russell explains that he has an idea where every driver can help fund his trip to London for a very small amount per driver.

SuperCabby Interviews Russell Howarth from Arresting Uber 33

pIUs7j_b_400x400In this episode I interview Russell Howarth from Arresting Uber again in a second follow up via Skype.

This interview was a bit spur of the moment to see what Russell’s plans were and if and when he is planning to return to London

Russell returned to Australia after his visit to London and has been doing a lot of work with various Taxi Trades around the World to combat the rise of what he calls a Criminal Cartel, Uber.

Russell explains his plans for combating Uber in London and also shared a few ideas that are not in this podcast as he didn’t want Uber to know exactly what his ideas are.

Russell fully intends to return to the UK and he explains how this can happen during the interview, he also says that our trade really needs to come together and unite for a common cause in fighting these tech startups.

Russell is the guy, who in Australia has made citizens arrests on Uber X drivers for operating illegally without the correct licenses or insurance.

Russell states that he has managed, through his actions, to lose Uber over 60% of their business in Australia and he is being commended by both Taxi and Limo drivers across Australia.

Russell has travelled to the UK at his own expense and is here for nearly a month to talk to Taxi Trade Organisations and he also has a meeting scheduled towards the end of the month with Leon Daniels at TFL.

Russell has a lot of ideas as to the way in which the London Taxi trade can combat the phenomenal growth of Uber in London and to thwart their attempts at cornering the market in London and the UK as a whole.

Russell also said that any driver that is any doubts as to the effect that Uber could have on the London Taxi & Private Hire trades in London should speak to any driver in America where Uber operates, he said that Taxi drivers have found that they are now taking 75% less than they were before, so if you think you can sustain running a a London Taxi on a mere 25% or what you currently earn, pay the mortgage and put food on the table then please carry on burying your heads in the sand!

John Preddy Cab4Now Interview – London Taxi Radio Interviews 31

u3Ym4Fk0

In this Episode SuperCabby Interviews a Private Hire Driver, John Preddy.

This interview was recorded back in November 2014 and a lot of people contacted me with their concerns about this interview as John has come under a certain amount of scrutiny for things that he has done during his life.

I was also dubious about putting this interview out but for different reasons, and that is the sound quality is not that great.

But over the last few weeks many drivers have contacted me asking for some more controversial interviews and a lot of suggestions were that I should interview some private hire drivers, so I decided to dig out the audio files and clean them up a bit and put this interview out.

John is quite a controversial character who uses the Twitter username of Cab4Now.

John also runs a Blog at Cab4Now.com where he airs his views and opinions on London’s Private Hire trade and also comments on the London Taxi Trade.

John explains in the interview that he has spent 3 periods of his life working as a private hire driver and most of that time has been spent working for Addison Lee until recently when he left to join Uber.

It is worth listening to John’s observations as to the type of work that he is doing on Uber.

Since this was recorded I am not sure if John is still working on the Uber platform as recently he was extolling the virtues of a new app aimed at the private hire trade.

I have also seen John advertising some of the cars that he rented to other drivers for sale, so maybe not all is rosy in Uberland anymore.

The Real Sitts Interviewed by Fitz – SuperCabby Podcast Episode 7

0

In this episode Mike Fitz AKA @Fitztaxi interviews John Sitton AKA @TheRealSitts.

This is the first time that Mike has attempted and interview and I think that he did an excellent job and would hope that he will do some more interviews that can be included in this show and podcast.

This interview was first broadcast on London Taxi Radio on Monday 18th August 2014 during the SuperCabby Radio Show.

The SuperCabby Radio Show is Broadcast Live every Monday night on London Taxi Radio at 10pm.

You can listen by downloading the Tune In Radio App and searching for either London Taxi Radio or Sherbet Radio

Below is some information about John taken from Wikipedia

John Sitton (born 21 October 1959 in Hackney, London) is an English former professional footballer and former coach andmanager of Leyton Orient.

Playing and early coaching career

Sitton’s playing career began at youth level at Arsenal and Chelsea, where he turned down an approach from Crystal Palacebefore signing professional terms at Stamford Bridge in 1977. After making several appearances, Sitton fell out of favour with then-manager Geoff Hurst,[3] and, after turning down an approach from Wimbledon, transferred to Fourth Division Millwall for £10,000 in February 1980 under George Petchey. Sitton enjoyed his time at Millwall but new manager Peter Anderson took an instant dislike to Sitton and sold him to Third Division side Gillingham in September 1981 and spent four seasons there under manager Keith Peacock before being signed by Frank Clark for Fourth Division side Leyton Orient on a free transfer in July 1985 where he was made club captain.

Sitton started to work on his coaching badges in 1988, staffing coaching courses via the London FA at the FA training centre atLilleshall under the FA Coaching Education Scheme until 1997, alongside such future managers as Alan Pardew and Kenny Jackett. At Lilleshall, Sitton coached youth players such as future Tottenham Hotspur and England player Ledley King.

In the 1988–89 season, Sitton captained Leyton Orient to promotion to the Third Division through the play-offs, and in all made over 200 appearances for Orient in all competitions.[4] After his release in May 1991, he started working for Orient’s School of Excellence Academy as a youth coach whilst making a few appearances for Slough Town in the Conference. By the end of his playing career, Sitton played in all of the top five divisions of English football.

Managerial career

Sitton was appointed joint caretaker manager at Leyton Orient with Chris Turner in April 1994, following the departure of Peter Eustace, and helped the team avoid relegation from the Second Division by earning four points from their last two matches. The co-managership was Sitton’s idea, as he did not know many of the first team players since he moved into coaching in Orient’s youth setup, and knew that Turner had more knowledge about them. The duo were given the job permanently that summer after the board received positive feedback from the players, and continued throughout the difficult 1994–95 season in which Sitton had to work in six different roles within the club whilst on a youth coach salary. The squad size was cut in half and the club was on the verge of liquidation, with the PFA paying the players wages for several months whilst chairman Tony Wood tried to sell the club.

During this time, he became one of the few football managers to feature in a Channel 4 documentary, Orient: Club for a Fiver (sometimes known as Leyton Orient: Yours for a Fiver), made in 1995 by Open Media. The programme highlighted Sitton’s well-known passionate language and managerial style, and featured a half-time team talk given by Sitton on 7 February 1995, after Orient had fallen 1–0 down in a league match at home to Blackpool. After sacking defender and fan favourite Terry Howard on camera in the dressing room, Sitton addressed two other players and offered to fight them, saying:

“You, you little cunt, when I tell you to do something, and you, you fucking big cunt, when I tell you to do something, do it. And if you come back at me, we’ll have a fucking right sort-out in here. All right? And you can pair up if you like, and you can fucking pick someone else to help you, and you can bring your fucking dinner. ‘Cos by the time I’ve finished with you, you’ll fucking need it.”[4]

Speaking about the event later, Sitton said, “Terry’s an ex-teammate of mine who I like very, very much. He’s good company when you go for a night out – but as a manager and a coach, he’s not what I’m looking for. I may have lost a friend, but by tomorrow I would have recovered.”[5]

Orient went on to lose the match 1–0, and after winning only one of the next 15 games, both Sitton and Turner were sacked two months later. Orient won just seven of 47 games under the pair. After the pair left, the side lost the following three games and finished bottom of the table.

New owner Barry Hearn had briefly considered retaining Sitton on a three year contract, before hiring Pat Holland as Sitton and Turner’s replacement.

Since 1995

After leaving Brisbane Road, Sitton battled depression and had therapy. He was passed over for many club coaching jobs due to how he was perceived in Club for a Fiver, leaving him very disillusioned. He spent eighteen months applying for work without success despite being a well regarded coach within football.

In 1997, Sitton began learning The Knowledge in order to become a London taxi driver, completing it in 2003. He also had a brief spell as a scout for Manchester City, where he recommended Arjan de ZeeuwTim Cahill and a young Frank Lampard to the club, before Joe Royle cleared out the backroom staff on his arrival as manager in 1998.

Sitton had a short spell as assistant manager at Enfield under controversial chairman Tony Lazarou, and later briefly worked as assistant manager at Leyton. A few years later, he was brought back to the club by popular demand from the players. As manager, Sitton started well in the league, but pressure from chairman Costas Sophocleous after a draw made him decide to leave after the following match.

Sitton also worked at the Press Association, compiling statistics for Arsenal matches for the Actim Index, and had also spent some time as a martial arts instructor.[3][6]

Sitton currently works as a taxi driver, and is a regular Twitter user. Since 2012 Sitton has done several interviews with Vernon Grant on YouTube[7] in which he discussed his playing career and his time as Leyton Orient manager. Sitton related his hopes of creating a Wimbledon-style Crazy Gang mentality at Leyton Orient, coupled with youth development along the lines of Dario Gradi‘s work at Crewe Alexandra.

Since February 2013, Sitton and Grant have made regular videos via Skype in which Sitton discusses current events in football, tells anecdotes and makes score predictions. The pair are currently collaborating on an autobiography due for release in 2014. Sitton also appeared on Pitch Talk,[8] discussing his life and career, and has also appeared onTalksport.[9]

Sitton has a wife and three children. They live in Chingford, London.

SuperCabby Podcast Episode 6 – TaxiCab App

imageIn this episode I speak about the TaxiCab App.

We have been getting a lot of questions lately asking, “how’s the app going?” When will the app be available?” so I though that I would speak about how we started, how far we have come, when we realistically expect to have the app available.

I talk about offers that we had from various third party app developers, why we didn’t accept any of the offers and the individual reasons why they were not appropriate for our trade.

I mention some of the things that those involved with the project thought were fundamental for our app to succeed.

I also talk about how the app business will be set up, how the cooperative will work and what drivers can expect from getting involved.

This episode was not scripted and I spoke about the app “off pat” so please excuse some of the pregnant pauses and if I repeat myself please forgive me, this was originally broadcast on London Taxi Radio on Monday 11th August 2014 live.

You can get in touch with the TaxiCab Group either by email or via twitter @TaxiCabLDN

Lewis Norton Interview – SuperCabby Podcast Episode 5

In this episode of the SuperCabby Podcast I interviewed Lewis Norton who is the new Branch Secretary of the RMT London Taxi Branch.

Lewis has only been driving a London Taxi for about 3 years but appears to be passionate about our trade and is also not afraid of voicing his opinions about the trade.

The RMT was not the first trade organisation that Lewis joined as he joined the LTDA shortly after getting his badge.

Lews spent 4 years doing the famous Knowledge of London to become a London Taxi Driver.

The interview is about 45 minutes long.

Jim Thomas Interview – SuperCabby Podcast Episode 4

In this weeks Podcast I interviewed Jim Thomas AKA ThomasTheTaxi from Taxi Leaks.

Taxi Leaks is an online blog that Jim runs where he posts news stories from the Taxi Trade, mainly London biased stories but he also includes some relevant UK or World Taxi stories and articles which he feels may be of interest to London Taxi Drivers.

Jim gained is badge in 1971 after taking 11 months studying the Knowledge of London to become a Licensed London Taxi Driver.

Jim has been driving a Taxi in London for 42 years but still loves doing the job and is extremely passionate about the trade.

This episode of the Podcast is a bit longer than usual and after we had finished the interview Jim and myself continued to chat and I have included some of this at the end of the interview.

Jim is an interesting guy and has obviously seen quite a lot of changes within our trade and I could have quite easily carried on chatting to him for another couple of hours.

I hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast and if there is anyone within our trade that you would like to hear me interview please leave your suggestions by feeling in my Feedback Form
